I will be in Carmel, CA for a 3-day in-person gouache workshop. In this 3-day gouache workshop, I will cover the important fundamentals of composition design, color relationships, staging the light, atmospheric perspective, simplification, and shape design through the use of gouache (students are welcome to use oil or acrylic if desired). This is a great workshop for anyone interested in painting and who would like to learn how to capture a rich sense of natural lighting and color into their artwork. You can choose any medium to paint with—I will be using gouache.
Each day will start with a painting demo followed by students painting on location. Monterey Peninsula locations to be determined.

I will be teaching a 5 day 10 hour class that focuses on painting with gouache. In this class students will learn how to mix color complexities as well as mark making, texturizing, color and lighting hierarchies and shape vocabulary.
Flash Structure: 5 Weeks, 2 hours per week. Course structured to deliver focused information and techniques. Each week will be live demonstrations and Lecture. There is no feedback offered in this course.

This hands-on course focuses on the use of color key and lighting cinematography to help enhance the storytelling in film production. The course will cover the use of light & color as essential narrative tools in both early visual development as well as lighting guides in a 3D production. Topics such as B&W lighting setup, mood creation, creating color keys, & setting up photoshop paintings in a way that is efficient and easy to understand in a 3D production pipeline. Due to the understanding of form, materials, color & digital painting skills required for the course.

In this foundational environment drawing class, students will learn how to see and use perspective in their environments for the purpose of composition and narrative storytelling. This class will cover the basics of 1-point, 2-point, and 3-point perspective, choosing the right POV (eye level), how to use perspective and space to lead the viewers' eyes, how to create a sense of scale, how to draw perspective for organic space such as jungle, sea, and grasslands, and when to break perspective rules for the purpose of storytelling and art direction.
